An Information Security Certification Program

What is CISE?

In this overly-connected world with plenty of information security risks, the need to understand, to be aware and to be prudent of the security threats has never been greater. More and more employers are looking to hire and/or keep employees who are “security aware”. Employers always need something quantifiable and verifiable to show them you have the expertise they need. One of the very few ways to demonstrate to the employers that you are credible and fit for the position in the organization is by attaining a professional certificate.

The Certified (in) Information Security Essential (CISE) certification program was an idea innovated by the members of Internet Society Malaysia Chapter (ISOC-MY). The members constitute of various information security experts and professionals from the industry and government agencies. The key objectives of this not-for-profit certification program are:

• To measure general information security knowledge of the candidates.
• To provide a cost-effective way of obtaining a professional certificate in information security.
• To provide an avenue for candidates to validate and verify their skills and knowledge in information security.

Target Group

• IT professionals who want to pursue their career in information security.
• Managers who want to expand their knowledge beyond basic IT knowledge.
• Fresh graduates who want to master the CISE-BOK to have a better job opportunities.
• Anyone who uses the Internet and wants to validate his/her understanding of information security.

Delivery Method
CISE is taken online in a proctored environment. It offers a real-time result so candidates will know their results immediately at the end of the exam. The exam format is multiple choice questions with 100 questions that have to be answered in 2 hours. The passing mark is 70%.

Preparing for CISE
There are several ways to prepare for the CISE exam:

• Ensure that you have covered most of the areas under the CISE Body of Knowledge.
• Attend a 1-day CISE exam preparatory class or any other classes or bootcamps relevant to CISE BOK.
• Self study using various information security books and also the recommended readings in the CISE-BOK.

CISE Renewal and Maintenance
Due to the ever-changing security landscape of this inter-connected world, the certification is valid for only 1 (one) year. To maintain the competency and proficiency of the CISE holders, it is required that the certification be renewed every year. The renewal process is by sitting for another 2 hour exam which will be online and proctored.

Certification Cost
This is a not-for-profit initiative and the cost to be a CISE is affordable. The cost is:

• Each certification attempt: RM199.00
• Certification renewal attempt: RM99.00
